How do you care for the yarn?

Hand wash our wool once knitted in tepid water with some wool wash, wrap in a towel and dry flat or use your preferred method of blocking.

Will the colours bleed when washed?

Some colours may bleed on washing, we do try to prevent this but occasionally bleeding will occur, despite the fact that our wool is washed until the water runs clear. It is the nature of a hand dyed item. You could pre-wash your tied skeins in cool water adding some wool wash before knitting with it, being careful not to tangle it. Alternatively you could knit a swatch of the colours you intend to use together and then wash it how you would wash your final piece. If no bleeding occurs-continue. If bleeding occurs you should proceed with caution. It is a particular problem with light/bright yarns- for the same reason you would not wash bright red t-shirt with a white one! However it is not always a problem with dyed yarn which is why test knitting a swatch is crucial. If colour bleeding occurs on the test knit-for the final knitted piece -wash in a cold water bath with 2 colour catchers in the water, dip it only, if colour bleeds remove it, squeeze gently the excess water out and repeat once or twice more. Then gently remove water by rolling in a towel and dry flat.

Are skeins from the same batch, the same colour?

All our yarns are hand dyed, and even within the same dye lot there is some variation due to the nature of small batch dying. In fact none of our yarn colour ways are reproduced twice, so what you see online as current stock will not be reproduced. Please bare this in mind when ordering! Be sure to order enough. Of course you can combine with totally new colourways too!

If the colours are a little different you can always knit a few rows from one ball and then the other and continue this for a few rows to gain a more even transition.

Do you use plastic packaging?

We use biodegradable mail bags, they are compostable and made from sustainable plant based material. The mail bags can actually be reused twice, if you wish, promoting a circular economy. You can place them into your composting bin and they decompose over 3-6 months.
